L’exposition de Sylvie Bouchard propose un ensemble de tableaux dont les thèmes sont pour le moins hétéroclites : on y retrouve des motifs animaux, végétaux et minéraux ainsi que des formes humaines évoluant dans des espaces indéterminés, et dont seule la luminosité semble être une constante. Mais ici, la posture de l’artiste se double de celle du commissaire. Dès lors, par leur agencement dans les espaces d’Occurrence, les œuvres invitent le spectateur à jouer un rôle actif dans la constitution du sens. Ainsi, par des effets de proximité, de distance ou de constellation, et grâce à l’éclairage et aux murs d’exposition pleinement assumés dans leur fonction d’interstice, l’accrochage propose un regard nouveau sur une production picturale foisonnante qui se déploie depuis plusieurs années en invitant à un ralentissement du regard et à une expérience phénoménologique du temps en peinture.

Sylvie Bouchard’s exhibition offers an ensemble of paintings with quite heterogeneous themes; animals’ prints, plants and minerals as well as human forms moving in unidentified spaces compose this ensemble in which only brightness seems to be a constant. But here, the artist’s stance is coupled with a curatorial one. Indeed, the works presented invite the viewer to play an active role in the creation of meaning through their arrangement in Occurrence’s space. Thanks to the effects of proximity, distance or constellation, and the lighting and walls purposefully utilized as interstices, the museography gives rise to a new look at a lavish pictorial production that has unfolded for several years by slowing down the viewer’s gaze and allowing for a phenomenological experience of time in painting.
