For more than twenty years, Normand Rajotte has been focusing his attention on a one-square-kilometer wooded area at the foot of Mont-Mégantic, in southeastern Quebec. Season after season, year after year, he diligently surveys the area, attentive to signs of change ranging from the growth of vegetation to traces left by animal activity. Without any prior documentation, his approach is primarily focused on close observation. This intuitive approach has gradually led him to redefine his relationship with nature and has created an intimate connection with this territory. The changes he observes there over time go hand in hand with his own evolution and are reflected in his work. The challenge, given that he revisits the same places, is to renew his perspective in order to remain open to what he encounters, so that new avenues appear with each discovery. In a way, he becomes a witness to the places and a guardian of the traces captured by photography.

A native of Drummondville, Normand Rajotte began practicing photography in 1973. He is entirely self-taught in this field. He initially worked in the genre of urban and social documentary photography, then shifted his focus to landscape photography in 1981, a genre he has continued to pursue ever since.
