A Hôtel-Motel production, co-produced with the Festival TransAmériques | Co-presented by Théâtre PÀP and Théâtre de Quat’SousIn association with Occurrence, Espace d'art et d'essai contemporains

This exhibition is part of the Après moi, le déluge performances.

An exhibition hall. Fifty photos. An audio guide. The viewer starts the soundtrack. An inner monologue begins, a journey to the heart of the exoduses of yesterday and today... Africa is the backdrop for these migrations. Africa of slave traders, refugees, urban exoduses, people displaced by war and poverty. West Africa, Ethiopia, and above all the Democratic Republic of Congo. So many forced exoduses, the aftermath of wars, modern and ancient slavery. And finally, one last migration, that of the author Philippe Ducros, to these abandoned lands. An initiatory journey between photography and theater, about the part of ourselves that is transformed by contact with these displaced people. A journey to the heart of the growing divide between us and the marginalized world, listening to those who live there, seeing the fragments left behind in the corners of the earth. From these journeys, the narrator understands that he will never be able to return completely.

Philippe Ducros is the author and director of some twenty shows, including L’affiche, La porte du non-retour, La cartomancie du territoire, and Chambres d’écho. Self-taught, his approach remains rooted in his travels around the world.

In addition to his work as artistic director of Hôtel-Motel, he has worked with other companies, such as Porte Parole, for whom he directed Montréal La Blanche, a documentary theater piece about Algerian immigration to Montreal, and Théâtre PÀP, for whom he directed Dissidents, a hard-hitting text about our capacity for indignation, the manipulation of our feelings of powerlessness, and our possibilities for taking action to create a better world.

Philippe Ducros was artistic director of the Espace Libre theater in Montreal from 2010 to 2014.
